How long does it take to get the DualDur results
Sending the test result takes 2-3 weeks from the arrival of the sample in the laboratory.
What should I do if I have a positive result?
In the case of borderline positive/rather positive and clear positive results, please always consult your doctor to perform further tests, make a diagnosis and start effective treatment as soon as possible.
What to do in case of a borderline result?
In the case of a borderline negative, rather negative result, if the symptoms persist, we also recommend consultation with a specialist and a follow-up examination.
What should I do if my sample is not suitable for testing?
An erroneous result occurs when the patient has not adhered to a fat-free diet prior to blood sampling, or the diet has not been strict enough. In this case, it is necessary to repeat the blood test for a repeating fee.
Is DualDur recommended according to health professional guidelines?
Published on 30 August 2024, 002283, recommendation 11 of the Healthcare Professional Directive mentions DualDur circumscribed as "a microscopic test called a world-wide Hungarian discovery", in connection with which the conditions set have been met, i.e. "the scientific evidence of the procedure has been published in a prestigious international journal", so it can be "used in routine diagnostics".
DualDur is not considered a direct or enriched microscopy procedure, so recommendations 10 and 25 with D, i.e. lowest category evidence, do not apply to it. Click here for more details.
Are there any known side effects of the test?
The test is performed in vitro, i.e. outside the living organism, and our blood collection syringes work with a safety lock. Injection back into the body can be ruled out during the blood draw, so there are no known side effects of the test method. Slight dizziness, loss of consciousness and nausea may occur during blood sampling, so our colleagues pay special attention to the safety and well-being of our patients at the blood sampling point. If you are prone to this kind of symptoms due to blood draw, please let us know in advance!
Is it possible to request the test for my child?
The test can be performed for a child over 5 years of age without further ado. The required amount can only be taken with difficulty in some children, so in the case of children under 10 years of age, if the test becomes unappreciated because of this, we will refund the test fee or arrange a repeated test free of charge. Blood sampling of a person under the age of 14 should be indicated in advance, as it requires separate organization.
If someone has taken antibiotics, is the pathogen still present in their blood?
The Borrelia bacterium that causes Lyme disease can be destroyed with antibiotic treatment (often after several weeks of combined antibiotics). In this case, the pathogen is no longer present or is present to a small extent in the body's tissues, including the blood. If the pathogen has not been removed from the body and the symptoms persist, the DualDur test can also show positivity, as it directly confirms the presence of the bacterium.
If the symptoms return, is it worth doing the DualDur test again?
The DualDur test concentrates the pathogen directly from a blood sample taken in a special liquid, and then examines live pathogens automatically with a dark-field microscope. Thus, unlike many other tests, it does not examine the body's immune reaction, which changes only slowly after a successful treatment. DualDur is the only clinically proven direct test in Europe, so it is also suitable for post-treatment testing. It is recommended to wait 4-6 weeks after the end of the treatment to evaluate the full healing effect of the cure and the balance of the immune system.
Why is it not enough to perform a test that examines the antibodies in the blood, produced by the immune system?
The body fluids of the tick are able to reduce the immune reaction after the bite. During the process of infection, the bacterium actively inhibits the body's defenses. Thus, in most cases, an effective immune reaction cannot even develop or shows non-measurable levels. Fluctuations in the level of antibodies produced by the body can also be observed. As a result, tests based on the immune reaction do not give a positive result in half of the cases, despite the existing infection. In this case, the infection can best be confirmed by using a direct test, the result of which depends only on the presence of the pathogen.
According to some doctors, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease cannot be detected in the blood after a certain period of time. How does DualDur work in this case?
Lyme disease has been with humanity for thousands of years. However, its research only accelerated in the last century, and the causative agent of the disease was identified 40 years ago, using a dark-field microscope. In the case of a newly identified pathogen, it is even more important for doctors to follow the latest scientific developments. Some older publications mention that the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease, is not found in the blood in such large quantities as other Borrelia species, e.g. the cause of recurrent fever. In addition, there have been several unsuccessful attempts to culture the pathogen from the blood. The latest results already show that Borrelia and its DNA can be detected even in some patients who have undergone treatment. In addition, Éva Sápi and Eva Ruzic were also able to cultivate it from the blood with a lengthy method, but almost 100 percent. DualDur has chosen a different direction. It does not culture or enrich, but extracts bacteria from the blood with a concentration of up to 1000 times and then automatically identifies them with a dark-field microscope. In recent years, a number of professional papers have been published that prove that Borrelia can be detected directly from the blood of symptomatic Lyme patients with appropriate methods, thus confirming the pioneering work of DualDur for four decades.
What do you see under the microscope in the DualDur test? Is it really Borrelia you can see?
The occurrence of bacteria in the human body is natural, but very few microbes survive in the blood. Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease, is an exception, which at first can live in the blood without seemingly serious symptoms. Similar bacteria are very rare, and its presence would be accompanied by serious symptoms and high fever. Under the microscope, Borrelia can be distinguished very well, by its unique movement and shape. There is no similar living form in the blood.
You may wonder if the moving shapes are artifacts. Independent tests were also carried out to show that the blood sample taken in the DualDur liquid did not produce "pseudo-bacteria" at room temperature for 172 hours.
The DualDur test can determine that the Borrelia formations present in the blood indicate the presence of Lyme disease. This is also proven by the clinical trial, much broader than mandatory, in which it clearly outperformed the qualities of other tests.
In addition, the presence of Borrelia can be proven quite accurately by an examination that marks Borrelia and not other similar shapes. This test is available in our offering, it is called immunofluorescence.
Will the DualDur result often be negative?
In a significant number of cases, we get a negative result. However, this proportion is not typical of the occurrence seen in the entire population. Why?
Usually, people who go for a blood test are those who feel sick. We receive patients who have been referred by a doctor with a suspicion of infection. Unfortunately, this suspicion is confirmed in the majority of cases.
Fortunately, there are many negative results, such as when the doctor wants to check the success of the treatment after the treatment. Testing on healthy people should give a negative result, as evidenced for the DualDur test by the largest clinical research in Europe.
If the result is positive and your doctor asks for a second opinion from a specialist, then it is natural that this specialist doctor will think that all results are positive, as they will not be contacted with a negative result.
What is the scientific evidence for DualDur to work?
DualDur has proven its performance in the widest Lyme diagnostic clinical research in Europe, based on which it received the European Diagnostic Device Registration (IVD CE). The detailed report on the results was accepted by both the competent authority and the Ethics Committee. Since 1986, the scientific results have been published in four publications, and the results of the study have been presented to hundreds of Lyme specialists at conferences. Specific immunofluorescence tests have been used to confirm that the samples are indeed Borrelia, and the latest PCR results confirm the presence of the bacterium. However, in addition to the scientific results, the most important opinion is the feedback from Lyme specialists who use DualDur, who found it to be the most effective in both diagnosis and treatment control.
