Diagnosis of Lyme disease can be challenging in many cases, especially when symptoms are not clear or conventional serological tests do not give clear results. In recent years, increasing attention has been focused on diagnostic approaches that directly test for the presence of the causative agent.
DualDur® is a Hungarian-developed direct diagnostic test that focuses on the direct detection of the Lyme disease-causing bacterium Borrelia in blood samples. Many people ask questions about this method:
DualDur: a world-first Hungarian invention?
How does the DualDur test work?
The DualDur test does not analyse the immune system's response, but looks directly at the pathogens present in the sample.
The blood sample is collected in a specially formulated solution that helps preserve the pathogens and reduce the formation of contaminants. During the testing process, the pathogen content of the sample is concentrated and then analyzed under a microscope with the aid of artificial intelligence.
In all cases, the results identified by the system are checked and approved by a qualified specialist.
Why is direct detection important?
The diagnosis of Lyme disease is a complex area as the symptoms can be extremely varied. In many cases:
- general complaints,
- symptoms are fluctuating,
- or conventional laboratory results do not give a clear answer.
For this reason, increasing attention is being paid to testing methods that do not assess the immune response.
The DualDur method aims to provide a new approach to Lyme disease diagnosis through a direct detection approach.
Clinical background and development
The DualDur method was evaluated in Europe’s largest pre-specified clinical trial. It is backed by 40 years of Hungarian research and diagnostic expertise, and the test has been available since 2021.
The diagnosis of Lyme disease and co-infections remains an area of active research, so accurate laboratory background and medical consultation are of paramount importance in all cases.
